The Supported
Accommodation Service (SAS), provides group accommodation
for 1 to 4 people sharing a house or flat. SAS is much more than an
accommodation service. We offer a lifestyle geared towards independent living
with support to help residents reach their goals. We believe that living and
sharing in a local community environment is the best way for our residents to
begin to reach their full potential.
A broad range of community group homes are
provided in SAS for adults with a mild to moderate intellectual disability with
low support needs. The level of support in each house is based on the needs of
the individual.
The High Support Program
(HSP), offers clients with complex needs, 24 hour support in a community group
home environment. Our staff are provided with ongoing training in supporting
clients with complex needs in which a positive programming environment is
encouraged.
Both the SAS and HSP residents are encouraged to
integrate into their community by using community facilities and services,
either independently or with structured support.
Social educators provide training and encourage
participation in tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing, budgeting as well as
other living skills; problem solving; leisure planning and social activities;
using community facilities such as banking, using public transport and
shopping.
Our Philosophy
Independent Living Services provides support in the
form of trained professionals for people with a disability who wish to live in
a community group home. Training and support is geared to help enhance
residents’ quality of life.
We provide a personalised living environment with full
acknowledgment and respect of a person’s right to choice, privacy and dignity.
We believe the family plays an important part in a
person’s life and encourage family and friends to take an active role. We
encourage residents to interact in the wider community, using facilities to
establish independence.
Staff are committed to working within the principles of
the NSW Disability Services Act (1993) and to the empowerment of people with a
disability.
Where a person with a disability wishes to and is able,
they will be supported to move on to independent living in their own homes.
